Trekking in the Altai Mountains

MIrror Image in Altai LakeThe area of Lake Ak-Kem at the heart of the Altai mountains is one of the most beautiful spots for trekking in the world. The mystical quietude and the local beauty gave rise to numerous legends of the Altai people. The base camp on Ak-Kem and the availability of various complex trekking routes make the area inviting to people of all fitness levels. We will trek approximately four hours per day.


Trip Itinerary

Day 1:

Meet guides at the Barnaul airport. Trip to the village of Tungur by charter bus and camp in tents on the bank of the Katun’ River.

Days 2 to 4:

Trekking to the Kucherlinskoe Lake.

Day 5:

Lay-over day. Today is a day to rest and relax.

Days 6 to 7:

Trekking to the Ak-Kem Lake. Base camp is near the lake.

Days 8 and 9:

Trek to the surrounding ranges and the Ak-Kem Glacier.

Days 10 to 12:

Trekking to the Tyungur through the “Stone Hut” and Kuilyu River.

Day 13:

Departure by bus to Barnaul. Hotel accommodation.

Day 14:

Departure to the airport.

Transfers to and from the Barnaul Airport

Horses to carry equipment

One night accommodation in Barnaul

Meals for days 2-12

 


Notes:

Scheduled trip date: July 18 - 31, 2005.

We can run an Altai Trekking trip at any time of the season with a minimum of six participants. If a specific trip date has fewer than six participants the tour price may be increased.

Meals to and from the trip beginning and end are not included in the tour price.
